Influence of anti-ageing compounds on rheological properties of bitumen

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects different anti-ageing compounds (AACs) on oxidative stability, rheological and mechanical properties bitumen. Modified bitumen samples containing six AAC combinations, with five Irganox acid (3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydoxyphenylpropionic acid), a hindered phenol polymer-based antioxidant, were fabricated aged under conditions using Rolling Thin Film Oven (RTFO) as well Pressure Aging Vessel (PAV). stabilising performance (anti-ageing) AACs examined Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectroscopy. effect AAC-modified investigated - complex viscosity, linear viscoelastic (LVE) properties, fatigue rutting Dynamic Shear Rheometer (DSR). results illustrated that all AAC-combinations afforded good stability base bitumen, outstanding achieved by formulations C, D, E F (Irganox acid:NaMMT, acid:furfural without or DLTDP NaMMT). showed displayed non-Newtonian characteristics associated simple thermo-rheological materials. A (DLTDP:furfural), D acid:furfural) (DLTDP:Irganox shown significantly strengthen resistance cracking. In contrast combination, addition NaMMT nanofiller mixture found enhance samples. • Anti-ageing modified exhibits behaviour. enhances viscosity while furfural reduces viscosity.
